The yearbooks are signed, the weeds are all picked, the last cookie was baked, and the stethoscopes are put away, the WIA summer program 2010 now comes to a close. On the final day of the program, the participants enjoyed a day of good food and games to reflect upon the program and celebrate the accomplishments made.

Mmmmm.....tasty!
WIA held it's 3rd annual Luncheon. All rotations in the program got to invite two guests of their choice to come in visit and enjoy a tasty meal. The food was prepared by the culinary participants and served by both health and culinary participants. The digital media programs displayed their work in the lobby as the guest walked in!

WIA - What It's All About!
WIA or Workforce Investment Act , not a particularly obvious title but I shall explain. Simply what it is, is a government enacted program designed to cater to people who aren't so well off. It helps kids graduate from high school by assisting with credit recovery and an initiative to do what they need to. It gives a chance to learn qualities needed in the workforce since it's gotten so hard to get a decent job nowadays. It'll even pay for some car repairs, if you need it. WIA was enacted in 1998 by some rather intuitive politicians perhaps foreseeing future proverbial road bumps in the economic status of our state. In the 12 years since it's start, it has helped hundreds of kids per year with the above mentioned things to help boost Michigan's workforce.
This year at the St Clair TEC [Technological Education Center] our county's WIA facilitators once again help assist with the four week summer career exploration. We have working with us this summer:

They are all a huge part of keeping the program alive and running so well. a big THANK YOU! goes out to each of them. Each student who enters the summer program gets a choice of the above programs and a link to each blog detailing the programs is located on the right. Each of the separate blogs give a summary of the sub-program of which it's about. Maybe you were curious and had no idea such a program like this existed. Well, now that you do, I hope you'll realize what is out there and ever increase your knowledge of things outside your bubble. until next time.
